"THE" Stevenson Lighthouse

On our Orkney tour, as we drove along Scapa Flow, the tour guide directed our attention to what he called "the Stevenson lighthouse." I found this to be quite interesting as I knew that must mean it had some connection to Robert Louis Stevenson. I researched this lighthouse upon my return and learned that the Stevenson family (of which R. L. Stevenson was indeed a part) was world renowned for their lighthouse engineering for nearly two centuries. Therefore, to a tourist, this is in reality a Stevenson lighthouse, but for an Orkney resident it is only natural to call it the Stevenson lighthouse.

Inverness Castle

Beth and I hurried down the shopping street in Inverness to get a closer picture of the castle before we went on up the coast toward John O'Groats. This picture is actually from a couple of days later while we were wandering around Inverness waiting for the bakery to open.
